About
I'm a full-stack developer in Denver, Colorado. I got here by way of the Navy, a first engineering job in Rails, and years in kitchens, and each one left something in how I work.
In the Navy I was a hospital corpsman, giving emergency, standard and routine medical treatment to service members. Triage is mostly one habit: look at everything in front of you, sort what's urgent from what can wait, and keep moving while you decide. I still work through a pile of bugs that way.
My first engineering job was at ShipOffers, where I wrote Ruby on Rails features for an order management system, plus daily accounting reports.
The kitchens taught me the other half. As a sous chef I ran food prep, wrote the procedures, trained the staff and managed inventory. A kitchen only runs well on a busy night if the procedure is written down and the next person can follow it, and I write code, and the docs around it, with that in mind.
Turing School of Software & Design got me back into engineering in 2021. I wrote Go for the Insights product at Fairwinds Ops, then joined Settlor that December as a Web Developer. The Settlor page covers what that work looks like.
